Launching of the Citizen’s Handbook on Environmental Justice for ARMM

Police Chief Superintendent NOEL O DELOS REYES, Regional Director of Police Regional Office of the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao (PRO ARMM) and selected staff officers attended the Launching of the Citizen’s Handbook on Environmental Justice held at Mamitua Saber Research and Technology Center, Mindanao State University, Marawi City on October 1, 2014 at 9:00 AM.

The program was started with an Opening Remarks from the Councilor of Marawi City, Hon. Abdani Alonto wherein he stated that the Government and it’s people must help one another in facing environmental challenges. “Everyone must give importance to environmental protection for it will not only help the people of Marawi City but ARMM as a whole.”

Judge Geraldine Faith A Econg, Deputy Clerk of Court and Judicial Reform Program Administrator of the Supreme Court of the Philippines discussed the background of the project and highlights of the handbook and told everyone that ARMM has a pristine environment however, pollution and deforestation is taking a toll on our natural world and environmental protection is a global concern.

She also expressed that the Philippine National Police (PNP) must consider environmental rights as part of human rights and that the police must continue to enforce environmental policing and help preserve the environment.

Meanwhile, RD PRO ARMM expressed his commitment to support the program as part of the PNP’s Environmental Policing.

 The activity was also attended by the representatives from the Supreme Court (SC), Philippine Judicial Academy (PJA), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Commission on Human Rights (CHR), Local Government Units of ARMM, Academe, and Civil Society Organizations.
